Spring Styling (feat. Farfetch)

As we have finally entered one of my favourite seasons, Spring, I thought it would be a good idea to share some outfit inspiration with you guys! I have constructed two outfits, one for day and one for night, but I feel that all these pieces could be mixed and matched together to create endless outfit choices. To give you a little insight into my styling experience, I wanted to use this blog post to show you the steps I take to creating the perfect outfit, and hopefully help you figure out the things to take into consideration when you are next styling an outfit!

First I start with the colour palette. As it is Spring, I really wanted to play around with pastel colours & muted tones, which is very fitting to the Pantone Colours of the Year.
Once I have chosen a colour palette, I then like to look at the catwalk trends for that season, to help me to decide which structures and details I should be incorporating into my wardrobe. For SS16, there was a lot of iridescence and over-sized garments.
I was really inspired by the luxurious textures and the shimmery satins that I saw when I was doing my trend research. This inspired me to create more of a sensual outfit which would still hold the cuteness of the pastel colours. I also noted that bomber jackets are a huge trend for SS16 as they are extremely versatile and are perfect for transitioning from winter to much warmer temperatures.

I started by putting together the daytime outfit which was heavily influenced by street-wear, which I adopt a lot within my own personal style. I paired a simple striped t-shirt with some cute printed shorts, and added quirky accessories to really bring the outfit to life. I love the structures of both the t-shirt and shorts as they are a lot more fitted and would really accentuate curves in all the right places. I fell in love with this white lace bomber jacket as soon as I saw it, and I think it goes so well with the rest of the garments. I like the fact that the bomber jacket still has detail to it, but it is just subtle enough so that it does not clash with the stripes and crochet. I really love Asian street-wear and so I took a lot of my influence from there, especially with how quirky the sneakers and bag are.

For the evening outfit, I really wanted to create something a lot more sophisticated. I always associate blush tones with a much more romantic look, so I just had to work with that. During my trend research, I noticed that a lot of the catwalk looks had incorporated slip dresses and lingerie which I was a huge fan of. I found this rose pink satin bodysuit and was immediately filled with a million ideas of how to incorporate it into an outfit. I ended up pairing it with a pair of crepe culottes and a longline sleeveless blazer, both in quite muted nude tones. This immediately made the outfit look a lot more refined. I wanted to keep the accessories quite simplistic with this outfit so I added a lilac leather tote bag with some mauve sunglasses and pink floral lace booties. As you may have noticed, I love adding hints of lace as it is such a subtle texture that can still manage to transform your outfit.
